Gap Payment Options

The Gap Payment option enables patients to only pay the patient gap instead of paying the account in full on the day. It should be noted that full payment of the account on the day of the consultation is the cheapest payment option and it is our preferred option.

However, here is how the Gap Payment option works. There are 3 steps:

  • 1. The patient pays the Gap Payment on the day of the consultation
  • Instead of paying the account in full, the patient pays their $35 Gap Payment on the day of the consultation. The claim is then transmitted to Medicare.

For patients eligible for a discount, such as Healthcare Card holders, our fees are discounted and the Gap Payment is reduced to $20. On Sundays and Public Holidays, the Gap Payment is increased by approximately $5.

  • 2. Medicare sends the patient a cheque for the balance of the account.
  • The patient’s gap payment is not full payment for the consultation. The balance of the account is covered by a Medicare cheque made payable to the doctor. Medicare will send this cheque to the patient, which takes about 3 weeks.

  • 3. The patient then forwards the cheque to us
  • Due to Medicare regulations, Medicare sends the cheque to the patient and not directly to us.
This cheque pays off the balance of the account and the patient needs to forward the Medicare cheque to us as soon as possible. Whilst many patients prefer the Gap Payment option, patients can make a saving by paying the account in full on the day instead.

Our ability to continue providing the Gap Payment option relies on patients promptly forwarding the Medicare cheques to us.
